I recently got a new Macbook Pro for school and I am having a hard time getting used to it.

This mac being the first one I have ever had. Plus it has been hard due to having Windows and linux as my past OSs. I find the overall mac experience confusing so far. Here are a few problems that I have had with it.

First of all I have problems with installing applications. Some of the applications have installers where you just drag the app from A to B with this graphical app, while others are just the application itself (you have to move it into the application folder). Sometimes I forget to install them and just run them from the download folder, then later when I restart, I can’t find the app anywhere.

The second thing I have a problem with is the maximize button. It might be a bug, but sometimes when I click it does not maximize the window. It just changes the height of the window to fit on the screen, it does not change the width. Then I have to resize the width of the window to fit the screen. It just seems like something is broken or I am doing something wrong.

My windows shortcuts don’t work and I now have to use the option key for everything that used to work with the ctrl key. No more win+arrows, win+l, and win+e. I know there should be mac key equivalents for them, but I just can’t seem to find them. On top of that I can’t figure out some of they trackpad gestures. Some of them work and some of them don’t. It might be again because I don’t really know how to use them.

Other than that, I like the design and the functionality. There are just a few things that I need to get used to first, before I really love the Mac.

This is the second time that my dpkg database was corrupted. When I do any apt-get command it is very slow when scanning the database of packages. Last time I had this problem it went on for weeks before finally I reload my Ubuntu. This time I was able to find a way to fix the long (often 10 minutes of waiting) “Reading Package List” message.

The article is on this site:

I removed the original step two, it is not needed in Ubuntu 9.10 or higher. sync-available was the command I used because I could not find which package contained grep-available

Step One: Clear the available file dpkg --clear-avail

Step Two: Forget old unavailable packages dpkg --forget-old-unavail

Step Three: If you use grep-available or other tools that rely on a useful available file, update the available file using sync-available (in the dctrl-tools package).

There are many songs that I like to listen to but there are some that make me happy, sad, or the feeling like just dancing (people at LETU did not hear that). Songs are great ways for writers to express their emotions to the people who listen to their music. Here are a few emotions and the first songs that come into my mind when I think of the emotion.
The few songs that I really like to listen to is:

Fireflies by Owl City
This song gives me a happy free feeling. It has a feeling that you are a little kid enjoying yourself outside in the night with some ambient light from the stars and the moon. This song livens up my mood when I am depressed about a lot of homework or other thing in my life. Most of the songs from some of the Owl City albums give me the same feeling that this song does.

Daylight by Matt and Kim
This song has a happy dancing sort of tune that make you just want to dance. It is a song that talks about having no cares or worries. They talk about doing all sorts of things and having no worries. This is also another happy song that uplifts my mood, because it has lots of positive tunes and words in this song.

Pork and Beans by Weazer
He talks about doing anything that he wants to do. It has a happy rock tune with silly lyrics that will surly make you either laugh or just rock with him. This is another one of my favorite songs, I don’t know why but it has a really catchy tune.

Tsukiakari No Michishirube by StereoPony
This is one of the few Japanese songs that I really like. It sounds like it is a happy energetic tune but really the lyrics are sad and depressing. The lyrics talk about someone who is lonely and lost and they want to find happiness and a place for them where they will be accepted. This song has a very good tune and it is from one of the anime’s that I really enjoy.

Baby, It’s Fact by hellogoodbye
This is a great song that talks about a nerd that loves this girl, but she does not know that he exists. But this nerd really loves her (get a life and move on). It has a catchy tune and my sister recommend it when I was thinking of another song to add to this post.

The last song is another one that my sister wanted me to add. All I can say is OMG!!

My alarm abruptly sounds off at 7:30. The loud annoying buzz interrupts my dreams and starts my day. I flop out of bed and get dressed for the day ahead of me. I ponder either to go to saga to get some breakfast or to drink a Mountain Dew or Zip-Fizz to wake me up. Of course the caffeine usually wins in the decisions in my head. Another alarm catches my attention and tells me that I have only five minutes till class. Quickly I pack my backpack with my homework and textbooks. Walking fast to class I usually pass many people that I know who are going back to their room. Arriving the minute of class I stand in the door thinking that I forgot something for class. Dang! Today there is a quiz that I have not studied for. Frantically I glance throughout the pages of my text-book trying to remember the things that were taught in class last week. The class goes by and the quiz never comes. Opps. It was to be given next class period. All this panic wasted for nothing. After class, I jog across campus to get to my next class. This class is one of the boring classes of the day and I find myself dropping off to sleep. Head bobbing up and down as I doze off and wake. In a matter of minutes the class seems like it is over. Then it is chapel the second nap time of the day unless if the speaker is funny or interesting I stay awake to listen to the message. The day feels like it is so long when you have lots of class. The next class has an exciting energetic professor that keeps me smiling throughout the session. Finally after that class I have a break or is it some idle time. I have loads of homework that I have to complete, so my break turns into a homework session. Then it is off to my last class of the day. I come into that class with happy thoughts because I can see the finish line for classes for the day. When the class ends my happy thoughts turn into despair because there is more homework that I have to complete. I will do homework till dinner and after dinner. It hits ten a clock and I close my book for the night as I am done with all of my work. My frown and stress vanishes when I pullout the video games or movies. I play for what feels like minutes but it was actually hours. Finally it is off to bed. These are my events in the 18 hours of my exciting meaningful day.

While I was thinking about what to write this post about, I recalled what I have been reading in my Bible in the previous weeks. I decided to write some thoughts about Matthew 5:13-15.

Matthew 5:13-15 — You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

Jesus says you are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. When I was reading this passage I though hard about these questions. What does that really mean? How does it apply to me?

First I am going to analyze where Jesus tells us that we are the salt of the earth. Christians are to be the salt of the earth. Salt in the ancient world has a very high value. It is associated with purity. In numerous places in the bible salt is used to purify things. I think that this meaning is charging us to be a purifying force to others. There are two other uses that I know for the use of salt. First salt give taste and flavor to food. I think it is telling us that we should spice up our spiritual life and the spiritual life of others around us. It also is a preservative for meats and other types of foods. I think that it is telling us that we need to preserve our relationship in Christ and in our other acquaintances in our life. In the parable Jesus is telling us that the salt has to do with witness and conversation. If we are not purifying, flavoring and preserving our witnessing and relationship with Christ we are no longer completely following the job that all Christians are supposed to be doing. Thus making us useless being thrown out and trampled by men.

In the second half of this verse, Jesus gives us Christians another charge to follow. He says that we are also called to be the light of the world. I think that this section is fairly simple to understand. We are to be a shining light of Christ to others. In our actions, words, and good things in Christ we should shine. We should guide others along the path to Christ as good disciples should do, as it says in Psalms 119:105.

Psalms 119:105 — Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.

We should be a light in the times of darkness to others to guide their path. It says that we should not put our light under something to cover it from the rest of the world. We should make our light known to everyone by hanging it out. It gives light for everyone to see that will resulting in people to get to know the love of Christ, so one day they too might follow Christ as their savior.

So these are my random thoughts about the section in the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew.

Wrench is posting about Matthew 5:4. He is explaining the verse and he states his prayer to worship God. His prayer is graceful praising God for all the things in his life. He uses lots of pathos to express his feelings to God.

Posting by Wrench on September 2, 2009:
In this posting wrench is listing the blessed’s in the Sermon on the Mount that Jesus is telling to His disciples. He also states information relating the chapel speaker and his message to us. This posting also uses lots of pathos to express his feelings to God.

Posting by Wrench on September 4, 2009:
Wrench is summarizing the chapel that he attended that day and he states his new prayer that he wrote that describes the power that God has. He ends his posting with a music video that displays someone who can’t stop praising God. Again with all of the postings that I have analyzed he uses lots of pathos (emotion) in all of his postings.

This is a long posting that Hopps wrote about his digital electronics final project. It describes his project, how it was built, what he used to build it, and all the other complex processes that they had to complete for the project. I think that the project is really cool and his description is really good that they wrote for the project. It has a lot of Logos in the posting where he put graphs, data, and photos of the project.

Posting by Hopps on April 14, 2009:
Hopps describes and comments on the Somali Pirate incident. He puts his thoughts and comments into his posting. I agree with most of his random comments about the incident. He uses Pathos in this posting because he is showing his emotions and stating facts about the incident.

Posting by Hopps on April 13, 2009:
In this post Hopps talks about a new program called MacHeist that allows you to do things to get free software for the Mac. He talks about a cool video game that he got from MacHeist. He is very convincing trying to get the reader to believe the things that he says. He uses lots of Ethos to try to convince the reader to use MacHeist.

This is wrenches first posting to the power suite blog which describes his first semester in the suite. It is really cool how he describes his first few nights in his new environment and the process it took for him to move in to his room. His language is very unique but it resembles an engineer’s style to writing using a list and different terms in his writing.

Posting by Grey on July 19, 2009:
This posting is about Grey’s exciting journey when he went skydiving last summer. It describes where, when, why, and how he skydived 13,000 feet from the sky. It is really cool that he was able to experience that memorable event. Its description was exquisite with details and art of his experience skydiving.

Posting by Grey on January 23, 2009:
Grey blogs about his cold that he has had since the month of December, and he describes all the symptoms and thing that he did to help diagnose his problem. It is very interesting on how much information he can come up with his sickness. He uses a listing of things that he did, and he uses logos to describe the things that he did.
